Jangala Tribal Warriors: Living, Growing and Learning From The Heart by Sherry Blair & Nancy Azevedo Bonilla
The Jangala Tribal Warriors series is based on the concepts in Tribal Warriors for middle and high school youth. Children are better off when they learn at a young age how to handle their feelings, conflicts and how to have healthy and strong relationships. The concepts are based on positive psychology, a heart-centered use of language and rational thinking skill building. Children learn about non-violence and peaceful living in an effort to stand against violence and for peace and harmony. Most importantly the focus is on their strengths and what is going strong rather than what goes wrong. Building children up from the inside out creates “inner wealth” and in turn creates healthy, positive and nurtured heart families, schools and communities. The accompanying facilitator’s guide provides step-by-step guidelines for implementing in classrooms and programs developed by our Lead Creator, Kelly Hollywood-Lehman and Sherry Blair.
The Jangala Tribal Warriors series present life lessons that are geared toward kids in middle to high school. The illustrations in the Jangala books appear to be more geared towards the middle school age range.
After going through the Jangala workbook, story, and Facilitator’s guide, I think that the information being presented within is done so in a very organized manner as well as being easy to understand and follow. I love how the workbook questions ask about a life experience and then work beyond it with follow through questions to see the outcome. This type of questioning triggers the student to think through their actions right through to the outcome and provides a great learning opportunity and analysis from a personal experience.
I love the thought provoking nature of the material over all. I love the learning through Jangala Tribal Warriors. There is a sense of pride that can be felt throughout the Jangala Tribal Warriors story. Within the Jangala story, there are a number of lessons that touch upon feelings, emotions, and other emotional and psychological areas that kids experience day to day.
There really is a lot going on in our kids minds. Stresses from life, feelings about fitting in, making decisions and choices every day. The Jangala Tribal Warriors Series can really help make your child think about the impact of every decision and action. By exploring decisions, feelings, outcomes, and actions of everyday situations, children can learn to see the entire picture and to think things through. Through working on seeing everything about a situation, children can be helped to grow emotionally.
As a mom, I really believe that speaking with your children about their emotions and feelings is crucially important to helping them grow. There is so much going on inside young ones and I think it is so important to help give them the tools to work through the things they think and feel.
The Jangala Tribal Warrior Series is a good resource for parents and teachers. Even if you are not going to have your child sit down and work through the Jangala Tribal Series modules within the workbook, the modules are amazing resources for you, as a parent or even a teacher, to bring to the table and have as tools to work on issues surrounding living, growing, and learning from the heart.
This guide is designed for parents, caregivers, teachers, and professionals using the first book in our series, Jangala Tribal Warriors: Living, Learning and Growing From the Heart. Co-author, Sherry Blair speaks to the “Adult Tribal Warriors” and prepares them for the change and leadership required to accelerate transformation whether at home, in class rooms, in community based programs and mental health programs. Sherry creatively uses an evidence-based 8-step change management model to prepare the leaders for the change. Also included is an excerpt from the teenage workbook, Tribal Warriors: Life Skills to Optimize Well-Being for Teens introducing the concepts of The Nurtured Heart Approach as the language that is used in working with the children.
