I absolutely love it when I get introduced to an all-new product that I have never heard of before and am testing for the first time. I find it really fun and exciting to put something I have never been exposed to before to the test. My Little One also gets super excited and always provides me great insight and feedback.
The latest product that we have been introduced to that I had never heard of before is Smooshins from MGA Entertainment.
The photo above is of my Little One’s first two Smooshins that she ever created. Are they not amazingly adorable? And yes, you make them….
Here is us at the point where you squish the Smooshins pack into the mold………
Okay, we have jumped a few steps here so take a look at this video to see what Smooshins is all about….
So here are a few tips for making Smooshins:
*Make sure you really mix the pouch up for the minute and a half so the color is all evenly in the pouch.
*You have to work your best to get all the liquid out of the pouch and into the mold. If you do not squeeze it out, the mold will not fill all the way and you may have a short ear or something. Don’t worry if this happens though as the characters are so adorable even with a short ear and it just adds more character to your Smooshins.
*To make sure your mild fills evenly, follow the instructions for placing the mold into the container. If it is sitting in their at an angle, as you fill the mold the substance will go into the mold unevenly.
*The directions say to wait four hours before taking out of the mold. I recommend waiting overnight to let the product in the mold really set. This is the hardest part of the process and parents will need to endure….”Is my Smooshin ready yet.” Don’t give in, as it really does look its best after sitting overnight.
*Yes, the Smooshins comes out sticky, but don’t worry, they dry over time and are smooshy and fun to play with.
Smooshins crosses over from arts and crafts, to imaginative play, and to collectibles. My Little One loved making the characters from the substance into the mold and was so excited to see not only what character she made, but what accessories they came with. The accessories can be swapped between characters and are limited only by your imagination.
I love the uniqueness of Smooshins especially in the area of collectibles. Most collectible products these days you just buy and see what you have. With Smooshins there is the excitement of making the collectible so it is your creation as well.
We reviewed a number of the Smooshins products and loved them all…

My Little One and I both really have a ton of fun together making Smooshins. It is something that at 10 she is completely able to do on her own, but fun as a together exciting arts and crafts activity. The recommended age for Smooshins is ages 6 to 12 years old and I agree with the recommended age ranking.
I have read a few reviews for Smooshins and have seen a couple of people say that they had to work really hard to pop the color pack inside the pouch. My daughter who is 10 had absolutely no problem popping the color inside the pouch.
I also read one review that said that the material hardened before they could squeeze the product into the mold which I cannot even see how that is possible. The material does not dry very fast at all that is why I recommend leaving the mold to sit overnight, not just the recommended minimum 4 hours.
Squeezing the material into the mold was a breeze for my daughter especially because you get the squeeze tool that makes the material go in within minutes and with just a turning motion of the tool on the pouch.
For me, I would think that there was some sort of user error for any of the problems above. We had no problems making the Smooshins and my Little One did some on her own without an issue at all. I got kicked out of the process in making the Smooshins by my Little One because she loved doing it and wanted to make them all on her own. 🙁
I totally recommend checking out Smooshins. They are a great arts and crafts product that creates adorable characters that can be kept as collectibles or used for imaginative play. We love our Smooshins.
