In the March 2011 Parents Magazine there was an article published called “25 Manners Needs Every Kid By Age 9.” The article in Parents Magazine was written by Dr David Lowry and illustrated by Jessie Ford.
The list has some manners that are easy to understand such as “#1 When asking for something say please.” There are other manners on the list that young one’s might need a little explaining as to why they are important and the reasoning behind them such as “#21 When an adult asks you for a favor, do it without grumbling and with a smile.”
I have to admit that I read through these manners and I honestly believe in them. I also have to admit that I try my best to teach them and behave according to them in order to live by example. I would not be forthright if I said that I never broke any of them though. These manners are ideal, but undoubtedly difficult at times.
Have you broken “#13 Never use foul language…..” I know a lot of adults break #19….because there have been a lot of times where I have walked through a door and the person in front of me has not done held it for me. Many of us simply seem wrapped up in a fast paced life to slow down and remember their manners. Do you find this as well?
This is a list of manners that needs to be on all our fridges in order to remind us to not only teach our kids manners, but to also live by example every day.
