Cirque du Soleil Toruk The First Flight is in town and MomMomOnTheGo’s crew was there to be transported to Pandora……
TORUK – The First Flight, Inspired by James Cameron’s AVATAR, transports you to the world of Pandora in a visually stunning live setting.
My family goes to every Cirque du Soleil that comes to town. We love the Cirque du Soleil performances. They are always amazing, with the attention to detail incredible and the skill mind blowing.
Over the years of seeing Cirque du Soleil shows, we have found that we can categorize them into one of two types of shows; ones that focus on the acrobatics with a story being told, and ones that focus on the story with acrobatics involved. These might seem like the same types of shows, but to us they are not. We find that the show has a main focus, being either the acrobatics, or the story.
Toruk The First Flight’s focus was the story and transporting everyone to Pandora. The story required a visit to 4 other tribes (5 tribes in total) and each visit encompassed an acrobatic performance, not to the degree that I have seen in previous Cirque du Soleil performances, but still to the degree that wowed the audience and had them breaking out in applause.
The visual effects within the show were amazing. At one point the village suffers an earthquake and the effects portrayed out to the audience drew them right into the village and experiencing the earthquake as well. Simply put, the stage was breathtaking…
Something that was different about Toruk The First Flight was it was not under the yellow and blue tent. Toruk is such a big show as far as the set that as soon as you sit and start to see the set transform and move, you realize why the venue had to be something larger than the yellow and blue tent. I actually like the performance being in building with actual washrooms for during the break instead of the port-a-potties that are found at the blue and yellow tent performances.
For Toruk The First Flight, the audience was able to download an app and be a part of the show at certain points.
At certain points the audience lit up from those that were using their phones and the app. In my parties opinion, although the app idea is pretty awesome, it is not required at all. The show is so amazing and breathtaking that you will not want to take your eyes off the actual performance to play around with the app. The phones flashing around those not using the app can also be pretty disruptive.
As with every performance there was amazing memorabilia and souvenirs for purchase and the prices were pretty standard. The most amazing items were the Toruk Umbrella and the Toruk kite.
MomMomOnTheGo’s crew attends a lot of shows and out of all the shows, Cirque du Soleil is without a doubt the best performances we ever see. Cirque du Soleil shows are our absolute favorite and are a must see when they come to town.
Cirque du Soleil Toruk – The First Flight is an absolute must see show. The show leaves you not expecting anything more, but rather on the edge of your seat in awe of the visual effects and performance before your eyes. You are transformed to Pandora and in a blink of the eye, the entire show is over with it feeling as if you were there for only minutes. The performance is so engaging that the intermission is like being torn out of a breathtaking world that you did not want to leave.
