Friendship Is Like A Seesaw is another wonderful book that is part of the Barron’s Big Hug Book Series.
In Friendship Is Like A Seesaw, you can easily tell by the title the topic of discussion. Yes, friendship and all the ups and downs that come along with it.
I personally can say that having a 7 year old daughter and a 12 year old step-daughter that they seem to have a lot of ups and downs with their friends and friendships. I definitely did not experience as many ups and downs with respect to friendships with my now 20 year old step-son.
We could have an entire series of talks on girls and their friendships. They seem quite complicated at times. So when I saw the Friendship Is Like A Seesaw book, I was chomping at the bit to read this one with my Little One.
Friendship is Like a Seesaw compares friendship to the classic playground ride—there are ups and downs, but in the end it’s all about balance.
All relationships have their ups and downs. When we are upset about a relationship, it is tempting to make ourselves feel better by planning ways to make the other person feel worse. However, it is important to model to children healthy ways to manage relationship difficulties and understand and respond to the feelings that arise from troubled relationships. The author goes on to discuss what we can do to rebalance and fix our friendships, like talking about our feelings, looking at our own friendship skills, or taking a break. A timeless lesson that older children and even adults can appreciate.
As with other Big Hug Series books, Friendship Is Like A Seesaw helps get the messages across with beautiful, soft illustrations and wonderful characters. Great characters and illustrations always help make a book even more appealing to children.
Friendship Is Like A Seesaw is recommended for ages 4 to 7. This is an excellent age ranking, but I have t admit that I think it was absolutely beneficial for my 12 year old as well when I had her sit down and read the book to my 7 year old. The lessons within Friendship Is Like A Seesaw are just as applicable to my 12 year old and even to adults.
I can personally testify to the fact that we seem to be dealing with friendship woes that happen on the playground and while at school. I am always telling my Little One to tell her friends that if they cannot be nice, that they need to take a break for a bit. I am always trying to teach my Little One to only let friends treat her nicely and properly and if they are not, that they need to take a break until the behavior improves again. All these lessons that I have been trying to teach are messages that are addressed in this book.
I love Friendship Is Like A Seesaw and thing that it is a must have book for home, school, and public libraries.
