Life Is Like The Wind is part of the Barron’s Big Hug Book Series. The Barron’s Big Hug books tackle tough questions and situations that face kids to help deal with them in such a way that they can understand and address the tied in emotions surrounding these areas.
It Life Is Like The Wind, the concept of death is being addressed. I think death is a tough topic to discuss for both kids and parents. It is not something that we generally like to talk about, but it is something that we have to discuss with our kids. Our kids end up with so many questions surrounding the concept of death.
I really love how Life Is Like The Wind discusses the concept of death. Life Is Like The Wind introduces the concept of death by likening life to the ever-moving wind. When the wind is present, things move and fly and flutter about. When the wind goes away, things become very still.
The death of someone or something precious to a child can be difficult, even more so when, as well, as losing a loved one, the child also knows that the people around them are very upset. In times of trouble, children look to others for ways to cope. The author explores the feelings we have when a loved one’s life goes away, how we cope with missing them, and how we can celebrate their memory. It also introduces the various things people believe happens to a life that has moved on.
I know that the concept of death has already needed to be discussed in our household. We have lost a few pets over the years as well as a great grandfather and a grandfather.
In Life Is Like The Wind, the adorable animal characters and wonderful illustrations help to make the discussion on the concept of death more soft and appealing. The book is done so extraordinarily well that I am very impressed.
