Litter Robot Review

November 3, 2013 By MomMomOnTheGo

RobotShop

My entire family loves animals of some type. Personally my household has 3 dogs, 2 cats and a bunny. My parents have a cat, that since the kids are now gone, is treated like their child. Most animal lovers do tend to treat their furry children, just like their children. My parents are no exception.

In my parents home, they have a room just for the cat. Well actually it seems like every room has part set up just for the cat, but they have one specific room that is set up with a water fountain, automatic feeder and a Litter Robot from RobotShop.

If you have never heard of the Litter Robot, it is an automated, self cleaning robot litter box.

Cleaning the cat litter box is now as simple as changing a kitchen garbage bag every few days. If you have several cats, the Litter-Robot™ drawer may still need to be emptied daily, but you will never again have to scoop a dirty litter box by hand!

The Litter Robot is really easy to set up. The instructions are straight forward and it only takes a few minutes to get the Litter Robot up and running. One note on set up….the Litter Robot comes shipped with the first Litter Robot drawer liner in place, so don’t tear it off thinking it is packaging like my dad did 🙂

With automated litter boxes, peoples concern is usually about whether or not the mechanisms that automate the process are protected to ensure that the pet is not injured in any way. I can assure you that inside and out, the Litter Robot is well made and the mechanisms are not exposed in any way. There are timers and sensors as well to ensure that the Litter Robot does not engage when your furry child is in the litter.

Here is the side view of the Litter Robot. You can see the little indents that circle the unit and engage on the motor to rotate the dome of the litter box during cleaning.

The Litter Robot is very efficient and thorough at getting the waste out which in turn makes cleaning up a breeze. Monthly thorough clean up of the entire unit is a snap as well because there is minimal to no residue from waste or dirty litter left behind. My dad does a monthly clean up of the entire unit from top to bottom, but because of how efficient the unit is, I am not even sure that this is necessary. I think you could actually leave the unit run a lot longer than a month without cleaning everything as long as you routinely clean the extracted waste from the waste drawer on a regular basis.

The Litter Robot is pretty quiet. We have all been sitting just outside the room door where the Litter Robot is and I had not even realized that it was doing its cycling to clean out the waste. In a completely quiet home, you can hear it work if you are in close vicinity to it, but it is not classified as loud in any way.

There are very convenient little openings to top the litter up for when that is required. Just scoop a bit in and put through the openings and the Litter Robot is all topped up.

The Litter Robot comes in Black, Grey and Tan. We tested out the Tan model and love the color. You can also choose between the Litter Robot or the Litter Robot Bubble. Both models come with a lid, but the Litter Robot Bubble has an extra clear bubble out the back for the bigger cats or multi-cat households. We tested the Litter Robot and we had just one cat using it.

My parents’ cat took to the Litter Robot right away. There were absolutely no problems with my parents’ cat adapting to the Litter Robot.

My parents love their Litter Robot. I love that it helps reduce the tasks that they have to do on any given day with them getting older and being retired now. Having said that, I wish we had a Litter Robot in our house for our cats. I would love the automated feature as well as having the bathroom visits cleaned up right after use.

The Litter Robot has made our Christmas Wish List for cats this year. This is surely a great present not only for the furry child in the house, but for the adults.
