Vancouver, BC – Early Music Vancouver (EMV) presents the acclaimed Consone Quartet in concert on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at 7:30 p.m. at Christ Church Cathedral. Following their sold-out Vancouver debut in 2023, the London-based ensemble returns with a program of Classical and early Romantic works performed on period instruments.
The Consone Quartet made history in 2022 as the fi rst period instrument quartet ever selected as BBC New Generation Artists, gaining international recognition for their historically informed, stylish, and expressive performances. Praised by conductor Sir Roger Norrington for their “perfect intonation, tremendous attack, and impeccable historical style,” the ensemble is rapidly becoming one of the most compelling voices in chamber music today.
The evening’s program off ers a fresh perspective on familiar masters, tracing the evolution of the string quartet through the inventive genius of Haydn, the bold innovation of his pupil Beethoven, and the passionate lyricism of Mendelssohn. The concert also shines a spotlight on Carl Czerny, a devoted student of Beethoven, remembered by many as a composer of piano exercises, but celebrated in his time for music of striking drama and imagination.
With their impeccable ensemble sound and deep interpretive insight, the Consone Quartet invites audiences into the intimate, expressive, and vital world of chamber music around 1800.
