Vancouver, B.C. – The Pacific National Exhibition (PNE) is looking for twelve outstanding high school students for its 2016/2017 PNE Youth Council. Now going into its seventh year, the exciting leadership opportunity gives youth a chance to learn about the inner workings of a successful organization while developing a voice in the community.

“Now going into its seventh year, the PNE’s Youth Council program is one of the best opportunities for ambitious students to continue to develop their leadership and management skills,” said PNE President and CEO Mike McDaniel. “The entire PNE staff eagerly welcome them to the team and we are thrilled to have these students join us as we plan for the upcoming year. We look forward to their contributions this next term.”

Motivated senior high school students (grades 11 & 12, as of September 2016) who are interested in developing valuable leadership skills, meeting with business leaders from the PNE and wider community, and making a positive change in their community, are encouraged to submit an application. Successful applicants will be those with some previous volunteer experience, who enjoy working with others, are highly creative, and demonstrate a positive attitude and willingness to learn.

The PNE Youth Council meets on a monthly basis, with participants committing to a one-year term. The deadline for applications is Friday, April 29, 2016. Interviews will be conducted in early June for shortlisted applicants. For applications and more information visit www.pne.ca/youth

Founded in 1910, the PNE operates from a 114-acre site at Hastings Park, a multi-facility venue in Vancouver where the organization operates four activity streams: an annual 15-day Fair, Playland Amusement Park, maintenance and care of the Hastings Park site and management of the site’s year-round facilities. These facilities are utilized to celebrate a variety of hockey, amateur sporting, music, community, social, cultural and commercial events throughout the year.
