4 Things That May Cause Hair Loss

January 26, 2019 By MomMomOnTheGo

Various factors ranging from emotional stress to illness as well as over styling can lead to hair loss. Therefore, if you are experiencing baldness or hair thinning, time is ripe to weigh your options and find the best solution. Here are the top four things that may cause hair loss.

1) Hypothyroidism

The thyroid gland is located in the neck and produces hormones that are vital for growth and metabolism. An underactive thyroid gland leads to a medical condition known as hypothyroidism while an overactive thyroid gland leads to hyperthyroidism. Getting medication from a results-oriented center such as SKIN CLUB – hair loss clinic is the best step when looking to stop hair loss because of such conditions.

Remember, having either condition can cause hair loss because they lead to hormonal imbalance. Hormones are a vital component of the human body as they regulate almost every function in the body. It is only through getting the right treatment for the conditions mentioned above that will get your hormones under control and prevent hair loss. Once your thyroid level is controlled, your hair will start growing normally.

2) Heredity Factors

Heredity factors are one of the leading causes of hair loss in both males and females. One of the most common causes of hair loss is male-pattern baldness or female-pattern baldness, which is a hereditary condition in men and women respectively. Two out of three men aged 60 years and above experience hair loss which is majorly caused by male-pattern baldness.

This condition is a combination of genes and male sex hormones. It follows a characteristic pattern that involves the recession of the hair at the temples that consequently leave an M-shaped hairline.

In female pattern baldness, the situation is more or less the same, only that their part may widen with a noticeable thinning of the hair instead of having a receding hairline, as it is the case with men.

3) Medications

Certain classes of medication may promote hair loss. Drugs come with several side effects and hair loss can be one of them. Some of the most common medications that promote hair loss include certain blood thinners and some blood-pressure drugs commonly known as the beta-blockers. Other drugs that may cause hair loss include those used to treat rheumatic conditions, cancer, inflammation, depression, and heart problems.

4) Physical Stress

Hair growth follows a natural cycle that involves the three phases of growth, resting and shedding. Any serious physical trauma may alter the natural cycle of the hair growth resulting in hair loss in the form of thinning. Serious physical stress often pushes more hair to the shedding phase. Such traumatic injuries range from severe accidents to surgery, burns, or serious illnesses that can shock the hair follicles leading to a rapid hair loss by up to 75%. However, physical stress only leads to temporary hair loss, i.e., your hair will start growing back once your body starts recovering from the act.
