OMG my family is addicted to Perplexus from PlaSmart, but in a really good way!
We recently got to try out the Perplexus Rookie, Original and Epic and since then we have not been able to put them down.
Perplexus is a sphere maze with a tiny ball inside that you have to maneuver around through a challenging track. It is very challenging and so much fun that it is very hard to put down. Perplexus is recommended for ages 4 and up for the Rookie, ages 6 and up for the Original and ages 8 and up for the Epic. I think that the age ratings on the Peplexus models are very accurate and appropriate.
When Playing any of the Perplexus models, you begin by getting the small silver ball into the start area. I suggest you take a peak about the Perplexus before playing, to get an idea of what you are in for and where the end is. When you are looking around the track on the Perplexus, you will note that there are numbers throughout. I read in another review that the numbers are hard to see, but I disagree. I can see the numbers just fine and we all use the numbers not to see where we are heading to next, but to see where we made it to so that we know when we have surpassed our last accomplishment.
I suggest that you start out with the Rookie which has 70 challenging barriers. The Rookie is rated for ages 4 and up and my 5 year old as well as all of us love the Rookie. Some of us have mastered the Rookie and some are still working on it. Either way, it is a great challenge and warm up for the Original.
With the Perplexus Original, you have a choice as to whether you wish to start in Track 1, 2 or 3. My recommendation is to start in track 1 and work your way through the 3 tracks progressively as you have mastered the one before. The Original is larger than the Rookie and more challenging with 100 barriers. The Original is rated for ages 6 and up, but my 5 year old loves the Original as well.
The last Perplexus we got to try out was the Epic. The name Epic suits this model of Perplexus. Rated for ages 8 and up and rightly so. The Epic is very challenging. The Epic is larger than the Original and there are 125 barriers that you need to twist and maneuver through to successfully get to the end.
I truly do not have a favorite Perplexus as I love them all. I just pick the Perplexus I wish to attempt based on my mood that day.
We also brought the Perplexus models that we have to our family Christmas Eve dinner and everyone from a grandparent, cousin, aunt and uncle gave them a try. It provided great challenges, entertainment and laughter. Perplexus is something that the entire family can enjoy.
