When I was young and started my cycle, we really did not know any better at that time about organic tampons versus non-organic tampons. We just went to the store and bought the products off the shelf that we found most comfortable and that worked best for us. But when my Little One, who admittedly is not so little anymore started her cycle, I knew that the tampon question would arise soon as let’s face it, tampons are way more comfortable than pads. I really wanted to explore the healthiest tampon options out there for my Little One. I wanted to be educated and prepared with product options for when the time came that my Little One wanted to explore the world of tampons.
In my search for organic tampons, I came across a company called BON.
BON is good. Good for you. Good for your family. Good for the environment.
So why exactly is BON so good for you and your hoo-ha!?
BON eliminates the risks:
Generic tampons make use of herbicides, pesticides, chlorine and fragrances when producing their tampons. They also will often include synthetic fibres.
This can cause the risk of skin irritations and cramps, which BON can help reduce thanks to their tampons, which are 100% Certified Organic Cotton and nothing else.
Transparency is at the heart of what we do:
Tampons are classed as a medical device and are therefore not required to list the components of their tampons. This is a huge cause for concern given conventional tampon companies have been known to use chlorine in their production methods, which results in the by-product dioxin.
What are dioxins:
Dioxins are identified as a known human carcinogen and this poses a potential risk to your body by exposing your reproductive system to this toxin, especially given how absorbent this part of the body is.
What is even more concerning is that the FDA tolerates small doses of dioxins to remain present in the tampon, despite there not being enough research into the long and short term affects of these toxins on our reproductive systems.
What about our packaging:
BON has the most durable & unique packaging design on the market, with no unnecessary plastic wrapping, these packs prevent tampons from spilling out into your handbag and even withstand an accidental dunk into water!
Good for the environment:
BON organic products are produced without the use of chemical fertilizers, herbicides, insecticides or fungicides keeping the environment clean and organic.
BON production methods help prevent the contamination of the air, water and soil around the world. BON organic growing methods prevent topsoil erosion, improve soil fertility, protects groundwater, conserves energy and deforestation. BON materials help improve the health of wildlife and ecosystems. The BON production process protects the health of applicable farm workers.
BON offers the following products:
*BON CERTIFIED ORGANIC TAMPONS – LIGHT ABSORBENCY
*BON CERTIFIED ORGANIC TAMPONS – REGULAR ABSORBENCY
*BON CERTIFIED ORGANIC TAMPONS – SUPER ABSORBENCY
*BON ORGANIC BUNDLES – 6 PACKS
*5 X BON TRAVEL PACK 5PCS – REGULAR ABSORBENCY
Each BON pack contains 16 tampons except for the 5 piece travel pack.
The actual container/packaging is very durable so you can throw it in your handbag and it withstands the abuse. The packaging also remains closed so you are not leaving a trail of tampons as you go. 🙂
According to BON, their tampons are made from a Premium Certified Organic Cotton which is what I was looking for.
There are no applicators for the BON tampons. You yourself, are the BON tampon applicator. If you are used to an applicator, the non-applicator method might take you a wee bit to get used to, but keeping in mind that you are using a certified organic product might help you get over any need for a cardboard or plastic applicator. Plus, no applicator is better for our environment. Less cardboard or plastic to be thrown away.

I really like that BON tampons are 100% certified organic. I like the peace of mind of knowing what is in the tampon I am using and that my Little One will use. BON tampons also work great and have the absorbancy selection for all levels of flow.
The only thing I would love to see for BON is to be able to purchase them in my local health food store.
Not only are BON products themselves great, but the company also gives back and I love companies that give back.
