Changing Gears Review

June 19, 2013 By MomMomOnTheGo

What would you do if you were not afraid? That is the question that Nancy Sathre-Vogel asked herself that lead her family to their adventure in Changing Gears.

Changing Gears is the true story of one ordinary woman who asked herself that very ordinary question one ordinary day in her ordinary home in Boise, Idaho. She answered it by taking her family on an extraordinary journey of epic proportions – a journey of physical challenge, emotional endurance, teamwork, perseverance, and tremendous learning opportunities.

It was a discovery of self, of priorities, of accepting hardships, of appreciating blessings, and of contrasting a comfortable past life with the extreme hardship and poverty of those they met. It started as a quest for a world record – but the ultimate accomplishment came in carrying on in the face of self-doubt and worry. Would the journey be a dream come true – or a mother’s worst nightmare?

The journey was a three-year, 17,000 mile trip from the Arctic Circle to the tip of Argentina with her husband and two young sons – on bicycles. By enduring the isolation of the tundra, putting out the physical effort to cycle up massive mountain peaks, and suffering through extreme heat, humidity, wind, rain, snow, and freezing cold, this family learned about more than the lands they traveled; they learned that hard work, determination, and refusing to give up, no matter how hard it got, had changed them forever.

Travel with her on this incredible journey. You may find yourself changed forever as well.

Even when I read the books description, I get chills. The epic adventure of a lifetime that Nancy and her family set out on in Changing Gears is inspiring on every level. It is the type of book that is hard to put down, because you just want to know how they are doing.

Changing Gears is very well written and you will find yourself rooting for Nancy and her family. You will wonder how they are doing, if they make it and even find yourself maybe holding your breath a few times as you read.

Changing Gears starts full steam ahead and keeps going right to the very last page. I think that this book is great and recommend it as an inspiring read for everyone out there.
