Cirque Du Soleil returns to Vancouver this December, performing the enchanting show: TORUK – The First Flight. Inspired by James Cameron’s AVATAR, TORUK transports you to the world of Pandora in a visually stunning live setting. Experience Cirque du Soleil in a captivating new light, through a new world of imagination, discovery and possibility.
Our family loves Cirque du Soleil. I remember seeing my first ever Cirque du Soleil performance a few years back and it remains the best show that I have ever seen. My Little One at the time was around 6 years old, and she still talks about seeing her first ever Cirque du Soleil. Every time she hears that Cirque du Soleil is in town, she gets excited and we all want to go see the show.
With Toruk coming to town, we are all extra excited as we love the movie Avatar and are counting down the days until we get to see this performance. We know it is going to be mesmerizing, breathtaking, and exciting to watch.
Here are some points of interest to help get you excited about Toruk:
**Narrated by a “Na’vi Storyteller” and populated by unforgettable characters, TORUK – The First Flight is a mythical tale set thousands of years before the events depicted in the film AVATAR, and before any humans ever set foot on Pandora.
**Written and Directed by Michel Lemieux and Victor Pilon, TORUK – The First Flight is very different from other Cirque du Soleil shows, with a main focus on the story being told and the use of projections, large scale puppets, and indoor kites.
**40 artists in the cast – 1 actor, 1 singer, 1 percussionist, 1 kite specialist, 1 boomerang specialist, 1 contortionist, 6 puppeteers, and 28 acrobats.
**40 video projectors used to recreate Pandora.
**16 puppets represent the creatures of Pandora: six Viperwolves, three Direhorses, three Austrapedes, one Turtapede, two swarms of Woodsprites, and one Toruk. While the Viperwolves and Direhorses are directly inspired by the movie AVATAR, the Austrapedes and the Turtapede were created from scratch.
**The Toruk has a wingspan of 40 feet and weighs approximately 250 pounds.
**There are 115 costumes in the show. More than 1,000 items in all, including shoes, headpieces and necklaces.
**The stage floor is 15000 square feet, covered by nearly 700 square panels.
