With over 615 pieces to snap together, part of the fun and reward is building your red and blue bot. If you wish to see the instructions for building the bots to gauge on the level of difficulty, you can check out the red bot instructions and the blue bot instructions.
For our household, anytime we have a robot to build, it becomes a family event. It is always easier and fun to build robots together. Then the reward once built is exploring the capabilities of the robotic boxer you just built. To explore what the HEXBUG VEX Balancing Boxer can do, you first need to download the app. The app is available in the Apple iOS Store and Google Play Store.
The app is called the VEX Pilot and to know that you have the correct app, just look for the following logo in the app store of your choice…
Once you have the app downloaded, you can then control your HEXBUG VEX Balancing Robot and red can take on blue.
The key with any product that you control from an app on your phone is to first get used to the controls. This usually takes only a few minutes and I have typically found that the kids get used to the controls quicker than the parents do. 🙂
The goal is to knock the opponent’s Balancing Boxer down and out for the count. Having said that, I think if you know the opponents Balancing Boxer’s head off, that probably would count as a win also. 🙂
The HEXBUG VEX Balancing Boxer has adjustable arms so they can do an uppercut or a jab punch.
As with any product that has small pieces, the HEXBUG VEX Balancing Boxer is not recommended for young children as the pieces pose a choking hazard. The recommended age for the playset is 8 years old and up. I agree with the age ranking as the set requires building the robots which can prove to be a challenging task for younger kids, but if you do it with them, I am sure that younger kids ages 6 and older would enjoy battling the Balancing Boxers.
Although I find the HEXBUG VEX Balancing Boxers impressive, the thing that stuck out and impressed me the most is their ability to balance.
I like the idea of identifying a “ring” area so that when battling, you need to stay within the area identified or else I could see one boxer going for a run all over the house and the other pursuing. Identifying a ring area makes the battles more challenging.
