I am not sure about you, but I find myself sitting at my desk a lot. I am probably sitting at my desk working away for about 10 hours a day, easily! So for me, my office chair is an extremely important item to ensure that I am comfortable and able to focus on what I am working on. Throw in the fact that I have a number of back injuries and well, my office chair is probably just as important as my computer.
When looking for the right office chair you have to ask yourself a number of questions…
- What tasks am I doing when sitting? (Are you at a desk, drawing table, need a gaming chair…)
- Do I need armrests?
- How much adjustability in the chair do I need?
- Where do I need the chair to be able to adjust?
- Do I need a high back chair or is a lower back chair sufficient?
- Do I like a really cushiony chair?
- Is look, color, and style important?
- Do I need the chair on wheels?
- Do I want a wipeable chair or a breathable fabric?
For me, I don’t need a high back chair but I do need a chair with an ergonomic design that provides lumbar support. I also look for a chair that has armrests. Armrests for me are a must and if the chair does not have them, it is a deal breaker.
I like my chair to be able to tilt back if possible as it is nice to be able to tilt back and stretch once and awhile, but it the chair doesn’t tilt back and the I love the rest of the chair, then this is a feature I can give up.
I definitely want a large seat that is cushioned. With my back injuries, the more cushioned the seat the better. I want to feel like I am sitting on a cloud.
A must have for me is adjustable seat height. I actually like to sit higher at my desk than the average person it seems, so I really need to be able to raise my chair up. I usually have my chair at the point where the armrests will just slide under the desk.
I also need to have my chair on wheels. I want to be able to roll over to items I need to get and swing around to my printer.
For me, fabric is the preferred option as well. This is because of my cats otherwise a leather chair would be perfect too but leather and cat’s nails really don’t mix. So I always choose a breathable fabric chair. I like the back to be either a mesh that breaths or a cushioned back, it all depends on which one provides the best lumbar support as that always takes precedence.
I like my office chair stylish as well but comfort always wins in the end if I have to choose between the two. Of course, I do like to add a splash of color to my office if I can as for me it creates an upbeat and fun atmosphere.
So with all the above, my perfect chair is…
