The winter break is over and by now we are all back in the swing of things…..school, sports, activities and homework.
I am always looking for ways to make that dreaded homework fun and one company that always helps me do this is Junior Learning. Junior Learning has a product called Rainbow Phonics. As part of the Rainbow Phonics set, there is a magnetic learning board, learning landscapes, and readers. I have the Rainbow Phonics Word Farm set which is Set 1 and I cannot tell you how much we love this set. We love the set so much, that we want Set 2 which is the Word City set.
Rainbow Phonics Magnetic Letters
Set of 84 magnetic foam letters with unique in-built magnetic board. Children build new words on the magnetic board as they discover new letter patterns. Phonics progression teaching guide is included to introduce new letters week by week. Letters are color-coded and include vowels, consonants, digraphs, vowel digraphs, changeable vowel sounds, r-controlled and split digraphs. The magnetic letters are a fun and great way to practice spelling and letter combinations. Let’s face it, sometimes those little hands get tired of printing. It takes a lot of focus to practice spelling, thinking of letter combinations and to be printing. By taking the printing out of the equation, the spelling and letter combination fun lasts a little longer for us. The magnetic letters also allow for me to participate on the board with my Little One which allows for making funny words and letter combinations to in turn help enforce the correct combinations and spelling of words. We just have a lot of fun with the magnetic letters.
What I love so much about the magnetic letters is that they are not all over my fridge! This is such a neat little package that can be packed up and put away when not in use. They stay clean and in great shape if taken care of and kept in their case and I love this.

If you find that your Little One is stuck for finding words to build, then you will love the learning landscapes. You can point to items on the landscape and work together at sounding them out and spelling them. We use the magnetic letters from the board set mentioned above to spell the words out on the landscapes. Please note that the magnetic letters are sold separately from the learning landscapes.
The learning landscapes are a great way for you and your Little One to measure progression and success. You can see how quickly they learn to spell specific words and in turn learning sound groups to help build on their spelling and reading abilities.

I am really impressed with these readers. I watched my Little One work her way through the readers, mastering each of them. I saw my Little One’s confidence quickly build with set one of the Rainbow Phonics readers.
I have had the opportunity to review a lot of books that claim to be readers for learning to read and progressing reading and there has not been one set yet, that measures up to what I witnessed in the Rainbow Phonics set with my Little One.
