Langley, BC – If you were to walk to the nearest tap for some water, how many steps would it take – ten, fifteen, twenty – then a quick turn of a nozzle? What if instead, you had to walk several kilometres down dangerous roads just to fill up a couple of heavy jerry cans with water that might make you sick?
That’s the reality every day for millions of Ugandans.
But you can be part of the solution simply by walking in their shoes for an afternoon of family-friendly fun right in your own neighbourhood.
The Walk for Water sponsored by NOVUS is a unique event intended for all ages to get an experience they will never forget. With a minimum donation of $25, participants will walk a total of six kilometres along sidewalks and marked park paths to a “watering hole” at the NOVUS building, fill up their jerry cans or 4 Litre milk jugs and return to Langley City Park to celebrate.
NOVUS has a long history of charitable partnership and felt the Walk for Water was the perfect way for the community to come together to make a difference.
“More than that, they donated $15,000 to help us finish a water project that will bring clean water to 16,500 Ugandans who would otherwise go without,” says Jeff Golby, Director of Resource Development for ACTS. “They are also covering the costs of the entire Walk for Water event so that 100% of donations will go towards providing clean water in Uganda.”
It only costs $125 to provide a lifetime of clean drinking water for a child in Uganda, so each $25 donation has an immense impact on the livelihood of Ugandan families. The goal, however, is less about money and more about instigating long-term empathy and awareness by getting the community together for an afternoon of feel-good fun.
If you and your family would like to get a glimpse into what Ugandans endure every day, and be part of the clean-water solution, join the NOVUS Walk for Water on Saturday, October 1, 2016.

About ACTS:
In 20 years of active involvement in clean water supply, ACTS has completed 21 gravity-flow water projects, providing clean water to 162,000 people in rural Uganda. They build what’s called a Gravity Flow System. This is done by finding a water spring source in the hills above the communities in need, protect the source, then build a network of pipelines, reservoirs, and accessible tap stands to give clean water to several villages. ACTS is made up of a team of Ugandan engineers, project and community managers partnering with Canadians like you who believe every child, woman and man deserve access to clean, safe water.
