This school year Vancouver families have more options to reduce their waste One-year pilot allows all Vancouverites to recycle all clean soft plastics and foam packaging at London Drugs
VANCOUVER, B.C., September 1, 2016 – Whether you’ve purchased a particular item at London Drugs or not, a new initiative under the Multi-Material BC (MMBC) allows the public to drop off all their unwanted clean soft plastic and clean foam packaging for recycling at any one of London Drugs eleven Vancouver locations.
“We just really want to make it easy for people to recycle,” says Kevin Sorby, general manager, retail operations, London Drugs. “We already have the logistics in place to collect our customers’ recycling and so now with this expanded program and MMBC’s support, we’ve simply expanded it to allow the public to drop off clean household foam packaging and soft plastics at any Vancouver London Drugs location during opening hours. We really don’t want soft plastics and foam going into the garbage and landfills when there is this easy, efficient way for these materials to be recycled.”
As students and families return to school, households will use more plastic bags and may have have more leftover foam packaging. Rather than discard these materials into the garbage, MMBC and London Drugs are encouraging the general public to bring this unwanted waste into London Drugs for proper recycling.
Thanks to this MMBC London Drugs partnership, the clean plastic bags and foam packaging collected by Cascades Recovery Inc. will then be recycled into items such as containers, park benches and fence posts.
“We look forward to seeing the results of this year-long pilot program at our eleven Vancouver locations,” added Sorby. “By providing our customers with a secure and environmentally safe manner to recycle such diverse products, we remain focused on our corporate goal of reducing all waste going to landfill sites across Western Canada. Once this year-long pilot program is completed we will assess the results and look at more ways to continue our environmental support to our customers.”
