I like checking out feel good books and books that share real life inspiring stories. With my concussion that I am currently suffering from, I had to sit this next review out, but I will be sure to check out the book when I am allowed to read again.
I had a pitch reader for me with one of my team members taking on the task of reviewing A Sober Mom’s Guide to Recovery by Rosemary O’Connor.
First here is a little bit about Rosemary…..
Rosemary O’Connor, founder of ROC Recovery Services got sober in 1999 and understands the challenges of staying sober and rebuilding a rewarding life. For the past ten years as an experienced life coach Rosemary has helped hundreds of people to bring about positive changes in their personal and professional lives. She coaches clients individually and in groups to support, rebuild, and implement structure.
Rosemary has developed and facilitates experiential seminars that cover topics that include: career development, motivation, life transitions, overcoming fears, effective communication, healthy boundaries, self-confidence and a step-by-step process to reaching dreams and goals.
Rosemary O’Connor received a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from St. Mary’s College. In 2004 she received her coaching education from The Coaches Training Institute. A year later she was trained as a Leadership Coach where she completed more than 200 hours of experiential training. Rosemary is a certified professional coach and has a specialty certification from The World Coaching Institute as Certified Addiction Coach (CAC). She is a member of the International Coaches Federation and has completed training in the ARISE Intervention Evidence-Based Method. Rosemary serves on the advisory board of Stepping Stone, the oldest alcohol and drug recovery program for women in Northern California.
Here is what my team member said about A Sober Mom’s Guide to Recovery……………
In the book, Rosemary describes what she went through, how it made her feel, and why for her it lead to drinking. Rosemary is able to really draw you into her book, her journey, and the related emotions. Although I cannot relate to the alcohol addiction, I certainly could relate to a number of the feelings and emotions that Rosemary described in her book.
What I really loved about Rosemary’s story is that she tells you right out; here is what I did, it may not be exactly what you need to do, but it will get you on the road to discovering what your journey is.
Each chapter of the book deals with an issue. The issue of hitting bottom is addressed, as well as the need to accept help. Accepting help is often a challenge and this is where having an amazing reference guide such as this book is great. Realizing you are not alone and that others understand can give you hope and strength to reach out.
The chapter on Spirituality is where I really felt good about this book. For myself, I find God in many different places at many different times.
Rosemary shares that all these years she searched for God, and it was not until the day she felt a stirring within herself, that she truly felt the presence of God, not outside but inside of herself. She has never doubted Gods presence since then.
Rosemary’s approach to spirituality was very important towards this book possibly being a book that I could reference in difficult times.
In short this book was a very good read. Rosemary’s story is an amazing one of a Woman’s battle with Alcoholism. I would recommend this book for anyone to read. I believe that there is a lot of positive information in Rosemary’s book that can be a benefit to all. Rosemary really gives you a lot to think about through sharing her story and what she went through.
Thank you for sharing with us Rosemary.
