Subaru is one of the safest cars according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Every year this organization examines the newest vehicle models and looks at specific safety features. These features include rollover protection, whiplash protection, and both front and side impact protection. Vehicles are then ranked based on how they handle tests of their features.
In past years, as many as 115 vehicles made the list. In response to this, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety decided to make their tests even tougher. New tests examine the use of safety technology, including crash avoidance systems. They added a new crash test as well. Even with these new examinations, the Subaru came out on top.
The Insurance Institute for Highway SafetyThe Insurance Institute for Highway Safety is responsible for the vehicle rankings. They are a private, independent group that is financed by a number of automobile insurance companies. In order to rank the vehicles, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety performs crash tests in a number of settings and looks at how the vehicles perform. They are not related to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which is run by the federal government. Many of their crash tests and criteria are quite different.
Top-Ranked Subaru Models
Four different Subaru models made the top safety rankings. They are the Impreza, Legacy, Outback, and Forester. All of these vehicles are sold at Chatham Parkway Subaru.
The Subaru Impreza is now in its fifth generation. Subaru started manufacturing the car back in 1992. It’s a compact, family car that comes in two main types – a standard 4-door sedan and a 5-door hatchback. The newer versions of the Impreza have a lowered center of gravity and a longer wheelbase. Although Subaru made these changes to create more passenger space, they actually add to the safety of the vehicle.
A mid-sized car, the Subaru Legacy is also on top of the safety charts. Like the Impreza, the Legacy is in its fifth design generation. The Legacy’s main safety features are its patented EyeSight technology (two cameras that monitor road conditions), a side monitoring system, and adaptive cruise control.
The Subaru Outback is related to both the Impreza and the Legacy. Now in the small SUV category, the Outback started out as a station wagon based on the Legacy, and then became the Outback Sport, a hatchback similar to the Impreza. It also tops the safety lists and can be bought at Chatham Parkway Subaru.
Like the Outback, the Subaru Forester is related to the Impreza. It falls into the crossover SUV category. This vehicle has received safety rankings in a number of categories, including the roof strength, side strength, and head restraining tests. It also has the same EyeSight technology as the Legacy.
Importance Of Safety Features
The four Subaru vehicles described here have all received top ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. They contain a number of technological advances that make them safer, while at the same time, their standard features, such as airbags and seatbelts, stood up to the tests well. These are some of the safest vehicles on the road.
