About six months ago we started testing out our very first Tapplock and you can read our initial review here. After six months of use, we wanted to provide an update on how Tapplock has been for us.
So what is a Tapplock?
State-of-the-art capacitive fingerprint sensor allows unlocking in under 0.8 seconds. Stores up to 500 fingerprints for multiple users. Adaptive algorithm means the lock becomes faster and more accurate with each access.

So after six months, here is what I have to say about our Tapplock…
*We LOVE it.
I love not having to run around finding keys for the lock. We have the lock on our gate to our backyard. We lock our gate because we have a pool in the backyard and want to keep the area secure. I used to have to run around finding the key every time I wanted to unlock the gate and it was a pain in the … you know what!
*Easy to use.
I find our Tapplock so easy to use. It is a breeze to program and so simple to use.
*Stores a ton of fingerprints.
At first I wondered why there was a need to store so many fingerprints, but eventually, I started to realize why. Even for us, with 5 people in the house and extended family that will need to access the gate, then mix that with people forgetting which finger they had programmed in, you will want to put more fingers than one per person programmed into the Tapplock. 🙂
*Don’t push your finger on the sensor, just place it there.
We have one family member (who will remain nameless) that has trouble opening the Tapplock. I keep telling them to just place their finger on the sensor, do not push their finger on the sensor. Everyone else has no trouble at all opening the Tapplock on the first try.
*The battery lasts forever.
In six months I have not had to charge our Tapplock battery. The battery really lasts for a very long time. I find the battery life pretty incredible actually.
*Strong and durable.
The Tapplock is heavy duty, strong, and durable. It is a solid lock that yes, I have accidentally dropped on concrete and it had zero impact on its performance or look.
Forged with Zamak 3 zinc alloy metal body and 7mm reinforced stainless steel shackle, strengthened by double-layered lock design with anti-shim and anti-pry technologies. The lock features unparalleled industrial design finished with electroplating.
*You can control who can access the lock and for what time frame through the app.
Share smartphone access remotely with unlimited users. Set permanent access or limited access with flexible dates and times, and feel free to revoke access whenever you want. Track and monitor access history with time and location from the Tapplock app.
*Price
Okay so at first glance some might think the cost of a Tapplock is a lot. But for me, the price is reasonable for what you are receiving and the convenience that it brings. For not having to have a key and not having to replace locks every time I lose a key the cost savings for me, in the long run, is awesome. As I write this review, there is a 15% off sale on over at Tapplock so if you are thinking of getting one, now is a great time while the sale is on.
Now let’s talk about the Tapplock and the security of the unit. There is a video out by a YouTuber that showed he was able to get into a Tapplock in a couple of minutes. Unfortunately, that YouTuber had a defective lock. The lock he had was missing the secure pin. If you have a Tapplock and you can get into the back panel then Tapplock will replace the lock for you as per their messaging. You can read an article by CNET that shows that they tried the same testing and were unable to find any vulnerability on the lock.
I personally feel that my Tapplock is very secure. I also highly doubt that I am going to find someone lurking around my backyard trying to get into my Tapplock. I cannot pry into my Tapplock or get it open in any way unless I use one of the three ways it is designed to open up.
Let’s be realistic though…I am sure that there is a way around any and every lock that is out there with the right tools, but for me, the Tapplock provides the level of security we need and want around the house.
As always, I recommend that you investigate the products yourself and make sure that it is a good fit for you. To find out more about Tapplock, you can visit them here…
