The Improv Centre Welcomes New Artistic Director and Channels Holiday Cheer with ‘Tis the Sitcom

December 11, 2025 By MomMomOnTheGo

(Vancouver, B.C.) – The Improv Centre (TIC) on Granville Island is pleased to present its festive new show ‘Tis the Sitcom this holiday season on Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30pm from November 21 through to December 30, with a special opening night performance on Thursday, November 20 as well as additional merriment on December 14, 20 and 24 at 2:00pm, and December 20, 23, 28 and 30 at 7:30pm.

Tickets start at $15 and are available online at www.theimprovcentre.ca, by phone at 604.738.7013, or in person at the TIC Box Office (1502 Duranleau Street).

Created by TIC ensemble member/Artistic Associate Jacki Gunn, ‘Tis the Sitcom is an improvised version of a never before seen sitcom about a group of friends living in the big city navigating festive dilemmas – complete with commercial breaks, seasonal TV moments, and plenty of laughter. Each performance creates a brand new sitcom on the spot, giving audiences the feeling of watching a totally new holiday special unfold live on stage.

“What excites me most is diving headfirst into all the jolly sitcom tropes and each night instantly creating a lovable, eccentric, ensemble of characters,” says Gunn. “I also love that we get to use our theatre’s tech capabilities to heighten the experience, so that it really feels like you’ve turned on the TV, flipped through the channels, and stumbled onto the holiday episode of your favourite sitcom. I can’t wait for audiences to experience the mix of production value and nostalgia that makes each performance feel like real holiday television. We’re not just improvising scenes, we’re recreating the full experience of a holiday sitcom episode, start to finish.”

And in other festive news, TIC is excited to announce longtime ensemble member and co-creator of The Bachelor-ish, Alan Pavlakovic, as the organization’s new Artistic Director.

“I’m honoured and deeply grateful to step into the role of Artistic Director here at The Improv Centre,” says Pavlakovic. “This theatre has been a creative home for me in many ways, and I feel incredibly fortunate to now help guide its artistic journey. I’m excited to champion new formats, nurture emerging artists and deepen our community connections, while ensuring our Mainstage remains a home for both excellence and joy. I do also want to thank Jalen Saip as she steps down to take on a new challenge. She has been a beacon for leadership here at TIC and I’m so grateful to be building upon what she has helped create.”
