Thinking of a great way to kickstart your healthy lifestyle this 2018? One of the best things you can do is adopt a healthy diet. If you’d like to incorporate smoothies into your daily diet, here are a few things you can do to get started.
First, you need to invest in a blender. There are many models of blenders out there, but choose that one that is durable and can still be used years from now. Also, it would be smart to have frozen fruit available so that preparing your smoothies would be a breeze. All you need to do is cut up your fruits and freeze them on a tray, then put them in containers and place them in the freezer again, ready to be used.
Also, be ready with some great smoothie staples so that you can get maximum nutrition in your smoothies. Aside from the usual ingredients like fruits, milk, and yogurt, superfoods such as flaxseed, chia seed, and turmeric can make your recipe not just taste better but also be more nutritious as well.
There are so many smoothie recipes you can try, but there are the top three that you should definitely include in the list of smoothies to try this year.
1. Tropical smoothie – here’s a low-calorie smoothie that is sure to give your skin a healthy glow but also boost your immune system. The kumquats will be a great way of adding sweetness to the smoothie without having to use refined sugar. The ingredients are 1 peeled banana, 1 peeled kiwi, 2 oz of kumquats, some Swiss chard and 1 cup of ice and water. Add a tablespoon for some fiber so that you won’t feel any hunger craving until your next meal.
2. Strawberry apricot smoothie – here’s something to replace your usual breakfast smoothie with. Just blend together the following ingredients: a quarter teaspoon of cinnamon, a third of a cup of almond milk (unsweetened), two teaspoons of raw honey, and a quarter of a cup of rolled oats. For the fruits, just get two apricots (make sure to get the pits out), one frozen banana and some fresh strawberries. When you’ve blended them all together, you can now add any toppings you’d like such as more bananas and strawberries or you can add sunflower or chia seeds.
3. Mocha smoothie – looking for something chocolatey but without all the added sugar? Here’s a recipe that is sure to satisfy your sweet tooth! Soak about ¼ cup of chia seeds in milk overnight. Prepare also some espresso and place them in an ice cube tray and freeze them overnight. The next day, just blend the prepared ingredients with some cocoa powder, half a cup of milk and cinnamon. You can get two portions of this, so you can have one for breakfast and if you want, bring the other portion with you to work for some pick-me-up drink instead of getting from the vending machine.
