The Vancouver Christmas Market is back again at The Plaza @ the Queen Elizabeth Theatre for its 5th season and MomMomOnTheGo and crew paid it a visit.
The Vancouver Christmas Market is a traditional German Christmas Festival full of wonderful food, vendors, live entertainment, carousel, and much more.
Admission prices for the Vancouver Christmas Market are very reasonable especially since once you pay, you receive a seasons pass for the market. So you can return as many times as you wish to enjoy the festivities for the 35 days that the market is open.
One of the things I love about the Vancouver Christmas Market is all the food. Beavertails, chocolate covered strawberries, warm pretzels, waffles, and a lot more. I guess you can tell that we love to hit the deserts at the Vancouver Christmas Market. 🙂 You can also get items other than desert such as pork knuckles, bratwurst, and schnitzel to name a few. They also have delicious refreshments, everything from alcoholic beverages to hot chocolate for the kids.
Here is a food tip……If you lvoe warm pretzels and beer then make sure to stop at the Brezel Haus.
My Little One’s favorite part of the Vancouver Christmas Market is the carousel. It is actually a pretty good paced carousel. You can purchase plastic coins at the carousel ticket window that you hand in to the attendant at the carousel as admission to the ride. I lost track of how many times that my Little One went on the carousel. She truly love the carousel and I am sure that her goal is to have a turn on each of the horses that have any pink on them.
When not on the carousel or eating, we wander the market and look at all the amazing vendors and unique items that they have. Every year we take our time strolling and enjoying the unique products. There is a portion of the market that is indoors and houses absolutely amazing Christmas ornaments. Make sure you make your way to the inside portion as the ornaments are spectacular.
You can do a couple of crafts at the Vancouver Christmas Market for a fee. I saw an area where you can decorate your own gingerbread man and you can build your own Herrnhuter Star ornament to name a few. If you go to the information booth upon entry into the market, you can get a scavenger hunt that you can do as you walk through the market. Here is a hint for all the scavenger hunters out there…..the pickle is inside. 🙂
The entire time that we were enjoying the market, live Christmas music was performed at their center stage. It was so festive and really just set the mood for a fun, Christmas outing.
Here is a tip for all those over 19 and wishing to purchase alcohol…..you absolutely have to bring 2 pieces of identification to the market. You will be required to go to the alcohol wristband booth, show your two pieces of identification, and you will get a wristband to show to alcohol vendors throughout the market. I like this idea as then you do not need to keep showing your identification at each vendor. Having said that, I don’t really ever get asked for ID anymore! 🙁
I could go on about the Vancouver Christmas Market, but bottom line is my family loves it. I am not sure, but I think we have been to the Vancouver Christmas Market each of the 5 years that it has been here. My memory gets the better of me here, but I know that we have been a lot and that we love to go.
My biggest tip is to go as early as you can in the season and then maximize on the season’s pass that you receive. It is a great festive family outing or as an adult’s night out.
The Vancouver Christmas Market is open daily from 11 am to 9 pm from November 22nd to December 24th, 2014. Please note though that is closes at 6 pm on December 24th.
