Walmart Canada is celebrating moms with their Mom of the Year contest. Nominations for Mom of the Year are open until July 8th, 2012. To nominate a mom please visit the Official Walmart Mom of the Year website.
Do you have a special mom to nominate? I know I sure do.
I am who I am because of the love that my mother gave me. My mother is my idol in life. She shows patience, strength and love beyond words. I have never, for one second, ever questioned my mom’s love for me, how much she is proud of me, and her dedication to me. I have always felt safe in life knowing that my mom is there for me.
When I was growing up, my mom had a horrible time with her health. She was in the hospital a lot and I know that she feels badly about this. My mom should not feel badly about this at all. She demonstrated such strength, resilience and an ability to fight to overcome all obstacles in her life. I saw her pull through health conditions that the doctors thought should have taken her life. Her mental and physical strength is beyond that of the average person. My mom is so strong that even when she was in tons of pain, I never knew it. She was able to not let it show in order to protect us. My mom also never had her mood affected by her discomfort and medical conditions. This is something that I still need to learn.
My mom raised us, my sister and myself, dedicating her time to us while we were home. Then she re-entered the work force when we were both off at school. She worked for awhile and then went to College as a grown woman. She graduated and got even better jobs. She demonstrated to us that it is never too late to do and achieve anything you want in life.
When I was in University, my mom took some classes with me. There we were sitting beside each other listening to lectures. We also partnered and worked on projects together. How awesome is that.
We loved to shop together and go out for brunch every weekend. I have awesome memories of wonderful brunches out consisting of pancakes, eggs, bacon and sharing the hash browns because I liked the soft ones and she liked the crispy ones.
My mom is also brilliant. Ask her a question and she knows the answer. I often tease her that she knows a lot of useless information, but truthfully she knows things that just amaze me. She can also do 3 dimensional puzzles that are amazingly difficult, in no time flat.
The best thing about my mom is she is always there for you with her love, strength and support. She is strong to the point that you wonder how she does it sometimes. There is nothing that my mom cannot deal with or get through.
Every single morning and every single night my mom and I text each other good morning and good night. We now live more than 3000 km away from each other and I miss her dearly, but we still touch base at least twice a day.
I am the mom that I am because of the mom that my mom is. I always strive to be like my mom was to us and often find myself asking myself, what would mom do. I have an amazing role model.
Thank you for being who you are mom.
