One of our favorite pastimes in our household has to be crafts. When it comes to crafts, my Little One LOVES painting. So when I showed my Little One a pillowcase that you can paint all yourself, she was ecstatic to say the least.
Available at What A Jewel is an entire line of pillowcase painting kits. My Little One painted the Mermaid pillowcase and she is totally in love with the process of painting it, as well as the end product.
Here is a before photo of the Mermaid pillowcase…….
The Artburn Mermaid pillowcase painting kit includes a pillowcase, non-toxic professional fabric paint, a brush and full instructions.
No need to stay in the lines as the paint is “transparent” so the black lines will show through even if you paint over them.
Hours of fun for children ages 4 to 13
Hot iron sets the colour. Machine wash and dry – the paint will stay vibrant for years
Paints are made in Canada and all pillowcases are hand printed in Canada
100% biodegradable clear plastic packaging
Our pillowcase painting kit came with a painting set containing 6 colors (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple) and one paint brush. The pillowcase also comes with a large piece of paper that you need to put inside the pillowcase while painting it.
My Little One is 7 years old and absolutely loved painting the pillowcase. She kept saying how much fun it was to paint her own pillowcase. The only thing that my Little One was upset about was that pink paint was not included and that you have to use the fabric paint included. She is crazy about pink and I am sure we would have had a completely pink mermaid pillowcase if pink had been included!
The kit gives examples on what colors to mix in order to create other colors you may want. This was a great tiny guide on the packaging as it helped my Little One make brown. Of course this gave her the idea of mixing all the colors which she did at the end to create affects all over the pillow. She was having a blast doing it and I was smiling as I watched her. Yep, I was stuck watching! Next time I am getting my own pillowcase to paint!
Here are a few tips I have for painting your own pillowcase with one of these awesome kits:
*Make sure you have a jar of water for rinsing the brushes.
*The kit comes with one brush, I recommend having more of varying sizes.
*Painting smock is always a good idea for those little ones.
*Have a good size area to let your little artist do their work.
The pillowcase is an awesome size and honestly a lot bigger than I thought it would be. It will fit a good sized pillow for sure.
Here is my Little One’s work of art…..
After the artwork is completed, you have to let it dry. It does not take very long to dry and I would say that within an hour and a half, our pillowcase was dry. Then you take the paper inside out and iron the pillowcase on high, cotton setting without steam. Ironing the pillowcase seals the fabric paint so that it lasts through the wash. It only takes a couple of minutes to iron the pillowcase so that the paint is set.
Presto….all done.
I think that the pillowcase painting kits are awesome and recommend that you check them out. The kits would make a great gift for anyone ages 4 and up.
