There’s a lot of benefits to spending quality time with your family. As a parent, you work 40-45 hours a week and as much as you like, you don’t get to spend a lot of time with your kids. Having a day or two out of a busy week doing fun activities with your family can really help strengthen the bond and keep everyone updated on what’s going on with their lives. Doing fun activities really should not be expensive. At the end of the day, it’s those simple moments that count. Here are five ways to enjoy time with your family while staying on a budget.
1. Spending A Beach Day with the Fam
If you have access to a nearby beach or a lake, then you should probably start packing on swimming suits, a sunscreen and a few sandwiches for you and your family. If you have kids, you can take this opportunity to teach them how to swim. You can play volleyball or build sandcastles. It’s a different environment for the entire family which can be truly refreshing. If you just want to relax and avoid any rigorous activity, lying on a comfortable hammock is not such a bad idea at all.
2. Camping
Camping is another fun and inexpensive way to spend time with your family. You can pack an overnight bag with some emergency tools and a few ready-to-eat meals. If you are interested in finding out how to do camping the right way, feel free to check out Planet Camping. You can find gears, camping tents, lights and other camping paraphernalia for an affordable price. If you have means to cook, it’s a great way to do some barbecue in the morning. In the afternoon, you can explore the area surrounding the campsite and teach your kids about nature.
3. Treasure Hunt
A treasure hunt is a creative and exciting exercise to do with your family. Just make sure that it is age-appropriate. You can hide certain objects all around the house and leave clues for your kids to follow. These objects or rewards can be some of the things from your travels or your own collection and you can share stories with your kids as they found each one. It doesn’t require a lot of money but it sparks creativity and resourcefulness.
4. Visit an Animal Sanctuary
Here’s another fun, inexpensive and responsible way to spend quality time with your family. There are a lot of things to do at sanctuaries. You and your children can feed the animals and learn about their environment, their routines and so on. Choosing to go to a sanctuary instead of a zoo will teach your kids compassion and concern about animals which will be helpful as they develop more and grow older.
5. Volunteer
Volunteering is another way to enjoy time with your family on a budget. You do not have to spend a dime and you get to do something good with your time. Find a soup kitchen near your local area or a park clean-up drive and enlist your entire family for a fun and responsible weekend.
